UK hits electric cars milestone: more than half a million BEVs now on the roads

Electric vehicles are the future – time to start driving in the right direction!

Electric Cars

More than 500,000 electric cars are on UK roads. BEVs-the industry name for them -are not 100% battery powered; plug in hybrids also exist and they’re called “range extended vehicles.” This means that there has been significant progress made with these types of technologies which will help combat climate change by reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuels such as coal or gas used during combustion processes (which produces pollution).

The number of BEVs in Great Britain has been growing at a steady rate, with 519266 by June 30th compared to 282 977 last year and 130 476 during the quarter before that.

Data from SMMT

The number of registrations during the first three months this year was 102% more than it was at the same time last year. This is due to a lack in supply and government grants worth up £1,500 for new plug-in car purchases being scrapped on June 28th.

With the cost-of living crisis leading many people to “hang on their existing car for a bit longer”.
It’s important knowing how many electric vehicles are available but what matters most is whether those cars can fill in trips that would otherwise be powered by fossil fuels like gasoline or diesel.”
